Lighting

Proper lighting is essential for maintaining a thriving marine aquarium ecosystem. Different light spectrums and intensities serve distinct purposes: blue and violet wavelengths promote coral photosynthesis and vibrant coloration, while full-spectrum white light supports overall plant and animal health. Shallow-water corals and fish typically thrive under higher light intensity, whereas deep-water species and shade-loving organisms require lower, more subdued conditions. Adjusting light levels throughout the day mimics natural tidal and seasonal cycles, reducing stress and encouraging natural behaviours. The right lighting balance enhances visual appeal, supports biological processes, and helps prevent algae overgrowth—making it one of the most critical factors in reef aquarium success.
